In 2017 we released the 'Merica' 5 inch. At the time, arguably the most advanced FPV racing frame on the market. After UAV Futures reviewed the bird our sales literally took off (no pun intended) and we were placed on the map as a player in the exciting world of FPV drones. Jump forward 4 years and it is finally time to breath new life and new tech into this "old" design. The Merica 5" V2 is here! This new version of our famous racer is not a complete re-design. It is an improvement on the basis of what made the original frame so good. We kept all the design elements that customers like. We fixed all the things customers didn't like and added a few new tricks! The new frame is sold in two variants. The 'Canopy Edition' is a set of parts supplied with the intention of you adding a canopy of your choice. We offer brand new canopies for both HD or analog FPV setups. The 'Carbon Edition' is an altered set of parts that uses a carbon fiber top plate and standoffs instead of a canopy. The carbon edition frame can be setup for analog or HD FPV setups by choosing the option you prefer. Here is a complete list of all the improvements, changes, and additions of the V2 compared to the V1 design: 

1. The bottom of the frame is now completely flat. The V1 design had press nuts and screw ends that protruded down through the bottom plate. This would frequently cause damage to the lipo. 
2. Arm geometry has been changed to beef them up in key areas which helps to increase crash durability. The V1 design has very thin arms and the frame relied on using arm braces to race without fear of constantly breaking arms. Using braces in this way really goes a long way to bring up crash toughness but it also adds weight and complexity. The V2 Merica is designed to allow you to fly without arm braces and still have great crash toughness. You can still fly with braces if you want to, but it won't be absolutely necessary anymore. It should be noted the V1 Merica-X braces fit the V2 frame. 
3. Arm motor pad has been moved from a 4 screw pad to a 3 screw pad. You do not need 4 screws to anchor your motor for racing applications!
4. The ESC bay area has been made more spacious on the X/Y plane and also taller by 1mm. The V1 frame had problems with the ESC bay being too cramped and this caused issues fitting larger ESC's. It also caused issues with fitting the lipo strap under the ESC. 
5. The stress relief slots on the bottom plate which are used to tie down the ESC pigtail have now been moved much father back. On the V1 frame those slots were so close in towards the frame's center they were basically unusable. 
6. The FC no longer floats off the canopy (aka "mounts" to the canopy). The FC in the V2 design is a standard type stack setup where the ESC and FC are stacked on top of each other from the bottom plate. The reason we opted to float the FC in the previous design was hardware and software tech wasn't nearly what it is today. Vibrations from the motors reaching the FC gyro were a real problem at the time. Mounting the FC to the soft TPU canopy resolved this. Today's FC filtering and gyro tech makes this a non-issue. Additionally, mounting the stack in a standard configuration makes field maintenance much easier. 
7. The V2 Merica now ships with aluminum screws for the stack anchor points instead of nylon. The V1 frame always had issues with shearing those stack screws on certain hard impacts. The new stack fastener design is significantly stronger in a crash. 
8. The V1 Merica-X arms and braces WILL FIT the V2 frame.
